What is an Air Multiplier?
The Air Multiplier is a pioneering effort from the renowned brand Dyson, which unlike the conventional fans makes use of the latest Air Multiplier technology to take in air and amplify it by 15 -18 times, according to the construction of the model. As air multipliers do not have any blades or grills, they are also popularly known as 'bladeless fans'. Convenient to clean and safe, they create an uninterrupted, continual stream of smooth air without any unpleasant buffeting.
Latest Air Multiplier Fans
Dyson Air Multiplier AM01 10 Inch Desk Fan
The Dyson Air Multiplier AM01 10 inch bladeless fan is built with the same set of features as the 12 inch version, save for the thickness of the fan which is 10 inch. Just to mention some of its key features, this bladeless 10" desk fan comes with touch-tilt, dimmer-switch control, 90 degrees oscillation, fully variable speed settings, loop amplifier and understandably without any fast spinning blades or awkward grills. Available in iron/blue and white/silver colour combinations, the air multiplier weighs 1.75 kg and comes with a cord length of 5.9 feet, dimension of 19.53" (H) x 12.01" (D) x 5.98" (W) and guarantee of 2 years. |
Dyson Air Multiplier AM01 12 inch Desk Fan
The Dyson Air Multiplier AM01 12" Desk Bladeless fan features Air multiplier technology (obviously) with no choppy air. With no buffeting or blades, it delivers continuous stream of air. Simple to clean and safe, it comes with a touch-tilt (that would pivot on its centre of gravity), dimmer-switch control (for adjusting airflow), fine oscillation (that moves the fan all the way through 90° when you just press the button). Available in stunning silver/iron colours and weighing 1.82 kg, the machine is built with a dimension of 547 mm (H) x 356 mm (W) x 152 mm (D) and thickness of 12 inch. The length of the cable is 1.8m and the air multiplier comes complete with a manufacturer's guarantee of 2 years (labour & parts). |
Dyson AM03 Bladeless Pedestal Fan
The aesthetically designed Dyson AM03 is available in silver colour, stands 46.77in tall (55.43in when fully extended) on a pedestal which measures 4.21" deep and 17.72" wide. With the diameter of the base plate being 28mm, some of the key features of this bladeless fan include Touch tilt (which can be adjusted 20 degrees either way) and oscillation. The pedestal air multiplier fan is shipped with a base, loop amplifier, remote control, stand and base plate. |
Dyson AM02 Bladeless Tower Fan
With a beautiful design, the Dyson Air Multiplier AM02 Tower is a bit different from the original loop design and features the shape of a 'running track'. It is 39.65" high and 4.33" deep, but at only a width of 7.48". The first floor-standing model is designed to consume minimum floor space. Recently launched, the AM02 could produce up to 50% increased airflow than the original AM01 desk bladeless fans. Unlike the traditional pedestal fans that make use of bulky, large bases for balancing the top-heavy layout, the AM02 is built with the motor enclosed in the base unit with the length of the cord being 6.56ft. The tower air multiplier fan is shipped with a base plate, loop amplifier, remote control and base. |
About Air Multiplier Technology
Understanding Air multiplier technology requires a bit of comparison with conventional fans that have blades. Construction wise, conventional fans could well chop air sooner than hitting you, thereby producing unwanted buffeting, whereas the Dyson bladeless fan is built without any blades. It makes use of the patented Air multiplier technology amplifying air up to 15 times, as a result delivering nearly 450 lit of uninterrupted, smooth air per second. So buzz words which carry a lot of purchase when it comes to this technology include 'No buffeting', 'No blades'.

Dyson air multiplier is cool:
Dyson Air multiplier is based on the inducement and entrainment technology. Owing to this, the fan draws in the encompassing air by means of motor. The efficiency of the motor generates powerful air flow. The accelerated air then passes through the annular aperture. Simultaneously, air surrounding the machine is drawn and amplified. The Dyson air multipliers use brushless motor which aids in controlling the air flow. In addition to this, the mixed flow propeller, which consists of nine asymmetrically arranged fins which eliminates the friction caused by difference in the air pressure. Overall, the technology is safe and very similar to that of ordinary table fan. |

Dysan air multiplier and Baby:
Dyson air multiplier is safer to be used at home with kids. The video depicts the kid casually playing with the fan. Even though, it falls over the baby it does not cause any harm to it. Dyson fans stand and tilt at their own centre of gravity. Moreover, their light-weighted ness is an apt choice. However, the power chord must be inserted carefully away out of children's reach and not as depicted in the video. |

Advantages of Air Multiplier Fans over Conventional Fans
| Feature | Air Multiplier fan | Conventional fan |
|---|---|---|
| Blades | No blades for fingers to get caught up in the on-off flow of air | Bladed fan that chops up the air into awkward segments |
| Air moving performance | Thin ring of air movement | Complete circle of air movement |
| Airflow | Uninterrupted airflow | Unwanted buffeting due to chopping of air |
| Adjustment of airflow | Adjusting power & air flow easy and precise with the turn of a dial | Limited setting for adjusting power & airflow |
| Safety | Completely safe (even for kids & pets) without spinning fan blades & grills | Unsafe - Bladed fans with grills |
| Maintenance |
|
|
| Position | Position of motor on the base than on the top - Fan pivots on its centre of gravity facilitating convenient touch-tilt | Position of motor on the top - Bladed fans are cumbersome & top-heavy |
| Oscillation | Oscillates 90º simply at the press of a button | Shaky oscillation - Needs holding the fan steady & pulling the toggle |
| Energy-efficiency | High - Draws in more than 5 gallons of air/second | Not quite energy efficient (depending upon the model) |
| Noise level | Not very high, but not too silent either | Moderate - High (depending upon the model) |
| Assembly level | Easy | Moderate - Difficult (depending upon the model) |
| Price | Overpriced | Moderate (depending on the model, features and brand) |
About Sir James Dyson
Sir James Dyson, English industrial designer & inventor of the Air Multiplier fans does not take a conventional route to business. Dyson, another rags to riches story has a lot of inventions and patents to his credit including the widely acclaimed 'G-Force' vacuum cleaner, ContraRotator washing machine, Airblade fast hand dryer and now the Air Multiplier bladeless fan has added another feather to his cap. Dyson also set up a foundation in 2002 to support engineering education and design which continues to inspire young, aspiring engineers and entrepreneurs the world over.

Whilst there are companies out there that simply aim to offer customers what they need, Dyson specialises in offering solutions (like the revolutionary 'Bladeless fans!) to problems that people do not even realise they have. Here Dyson has virtually put an end to the trouble of 'chopped up air' that normally comes out of the desk fan, something we never know we had before!
